Wawuyo Jr. beats Dad in the inaugural IKON Awards

The Ugandan Movie industry was graced by the first ever IKON AWARDS, the film and television awards held at Kampala Serena Hotel in Kampala with the top African Movie actor Nigerian Ramsey Noah Junior gracing the ceremony.

Am initiative by Humphrey Nabimanya the CEO of Reach a hand foundation was also supported by a couple of companies with Uganda National Cultural Centre coming in board to award the best film Makers in the country as Lookman Ali the producer of the movie ‘The Girl in the yellow Jumper’ walking out as the most awarded movie on the night.

Under the theme ‘Dreaming with the Stars’, Anita Fabiola and Moses Kiboneka hosted what was one of the best nights in the movie industry with the Awards design generated from the locally crafted basked known as Akabbo.

The girl in the yellow jumper was the first Uganda movie to be inducted on Netflix and indeed it lived out to its production as it also had a battle between Father and Son being nominated in the same category.

The father, Son battle was win by Micheal Wawuyo Junior as he beat his Dad Micheal Wawuyo Senior to the Best Actor in a leading role from their movie the Girl in the yellow jumper.

The IKON AWARDS also recommend the services and works of legendary John Winston Katende who is behind the works and naturing Actors in the Ebonies group, he was awarded with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The colorful event was graced by performances from artists like Irene Ntale, Benti Boys and Ricky Man with Greenade turning down the opportunity to perform due to dancers given to him by the event organizer.

  8. Best Makeup and special effects – Shakira Kibirige Kafa coh
  9. Best costume designer – Bedroom Chains by Irene Sseremba
  10. Best Production designer – Kafa coh Robinah Nansubuga and Ronnie Nkalubo
  11. Lifetime Achievement award – John Winston Katende
  12. IKON Rising Star Award – Tuyi Mariserena.
  13. Best emerging Film – Footwine
  14. Best IKON Fella of the year – Doreen Mirembe (Mama Wange)
  15. Best Actor in a TV serie – Allan Kutosi (Sanyu)
  16. Best Actress In a TV serie – Sally Elizabeth (Prestige)
  17. Best Actor in a leading Role – Micheal Wawuyo Junior (Girl in the yellow jumper)
  18. Best Actress in a leading Role – Nisha Kalema (Bedroom Chains)
  19. Best Actor in a supporting role – Cosmos Sserubogo (Tembele)
  20. Best Actress in a supporting role – Rehema Nanfuka (Kafah Coh)
  21. Best Screenplay – My Husband’s wife (Mariam Ndagire)
